Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass An American...

People have their equal right, and should not be ranked depending on their skin color or gender. However, because of the greed of wealth, some people discarded their basic humanity and discipline, and made excuses to justify their cruelty, so the slavery became like a tumor to parasitize the human society rapidly. With physical and psychological abuse, this â€Å"tumor† tortured every struggling people from day to night. As the insight of a dark history, Frederick Douglass’s â€Å"Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave† demonstrates the dehumanization of an inhuman society and how slavery could make a man be a salve and make another man be an enslaver and how he resisted this dehumanization. In eighteen and nineteen centuries, the physical abuse which commonly were whipping, shackling, beating, mutilation, branding, even shooting, in the United States varied by time and place, but was generally brutal and degrading. Punishment was most oft en meted out in response to slaves’ disobedience or perceived infractions, but masters sometimes abused slaves to assert dominance. In â€Å"An American Slave,† Douglass wrote about a slave, by the name of Demby, ran and plunged into a creek in order to avoid the punishment. After the overseer named Gore asked the slave getting out of the creek, the slave refused to do so. The overseer made a shot on the slave’s head. When the master, the boss of all overseers, asked why the overseer killed the slave, the overseer argued that â€Å"ifShow MoreRelatedNarrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave1251 Words   |  6 PagesJustine Boonstra Frey- Period 1 MAJOR WORKS REVIEW AP Lang Version GENERAL 1. The Juvenile Delinquency Act - 895 Words

All around America schools are comprised of more than 90 percent of school aged children (Siegel Welsh, 2015, p. 364). These juveniles will spend most of their time in these halls where most of their adolescent socialization will take place and their roles or lack of roles will be formulated. It’s not surprising that many of the juvenile delinquency acts will have some tie to either happening in the school or because of school. We must then take a serious look at who it is that is responsible for these acts. When the first classroom bell rings the seats will be taken up by students that come from all backgrounds. Some classes will be comprised of all minorities while others there will only be white faces to be seen. Teachers may know most of the student’s names and stories already as they know their brothers and sisters who were in their classes before them or even have grown up with their parents in a small their small communities. While others will not even bother a s their day is comprised of overcrowded classes with students who have no interest in their lectures, much less showing up for class on time if at all. With all these factors how can we pinpoint what or who it is that causes delinquency? Before many of these youngster even first took a step onto a school campus they were all exposed to first being socialized by their families and communities which had an impact on putting them on their given path. Descriptive Writing †Ayer’s Rock Free Essays

As the cramped, stuffy minibus approached our destination, I could see the first rays of morning sun sparkle over the horizon. Against this blinding inferno an ominous shadow appeared. It grew as we drew nearer, the true size of it becoming clearer. We will write a custom essay sample on Descriptive Writing – Ayer’s Rock or any similar topic only for you Order Now Looking away briefly to swat at a fly, as I turned back I was hit by a surge of warmth as the sun rose higher. Transfixed I stared at the task before me; the other occupants of the bus seemed sombre and lifeless compared to the scenery. Glancing at my watch (5.00am) I slipped my hat over my eyes and attempted to sleep. A sudden jolt awoke me; a speed bump signalling our arrival at the monolith. The shade confused my dozing mind briefly as I looked left. Waking quickly I saw a vast expanse of orange-brown rock rising to the sky, ugly at a glance but beautiful in detail. Awe-struck, my eyes slowly surveyed the rock; tracking up I saw faint smears of colour moving towards the summit, and eventually clicked that these were people, dwarfed immensely by this foreboding thing. I managed to pull myself from my seat, grab my camera and head for this blister rising from the outback. My view had been that I was at the base of the rock already, and that my walk would be a short one, but the weathered lump continued to grow as I approached. More and more detail was becoming visible; small bushes surrounding the base from a distance were actually small trees, small cracks in the rock were the size of a block of flats, creating huge weathered tentacles reaching into the desert dust. I eventually reached the base, continually staring upwards and trying to take in the full magnitude of this place. Our groups guide appeared and gave us the go ahead to begin the climb to the summit of this red mountain. I began the climb optimistic; seeing the sloping pathway from the base made it seem an ascent of no more than 150 metres, and the help of a chain near the floor would make it short work. But as I climbed higher, I saw more pathways stretching off over the wasteland of the zenith. Already somewhat tired, I suddenly had a surge of energy and decided to press on fast. I motored up the remaining chained slope, ignoring the floods of Japanese tourists sliding slowly down. Reaching the barren plain, I saw it was not the flat desert I had imagined but was covered in deep furrows and potholes created by the millennia of exposure to the harsh outback elements. I groaned, but could now see the apex another 200 metres or so higher. The prospect of seeing the already magnificent view from that windswept pinnacle strengthened my resolve, and I set over this other worldly landscape As I continued to climb, and could see more of the pristine wilderness around me, I realised just how far from the hustle and bustle of the civilized world I was. No sound could be heard apart from the constant warm breeze whipping through the channels in the rock; after my push towards the top I had left the rest of the people heading up behind somewhat, and no other tourists had ventured this far. I had the pleasure of being completely alone to fully appreciate the beauty of my surroundings, and how disconnected from life I felt. I realised that in my mental wanderings, I had also wandered quite far, almost to the roof of this red world. The final chasm in the rock before my goal seemed nothing more than a ditch and the last few steps would be done in minutes. Rising over the final hill and out of the shadow, into the fierce morning sun was fantastic. Seeing the earth stretch out into infinity below me filled me with life. It was quite odd. Weary from the climb, I sat down to rest, still feeling this wonder that places this untouched still existed in the world. The inspiration to explore and find more of these areas of solitude was suddenly kindled in me, and started some ambitions flowing in my brain. Rested, I decided to use this short period of isolation to examine where I was. Although at a glance the summit seemed empty, on closer inspection there was life. In the pools of rainwater dotting the surface were ancient creatures, species of crustacean, with strange shrimps and strange prehistoric things I later found out were called triops; similar to the trilobites of the Mesozoic, yet still alive after the isolation on this rock. It was quite incredible; a glimpse into a life cycle that has been carrying in a single puddle for millions of years, completely ignorant of the rest of the world and completely unchanged. In the time I had been staring into the pool, my mum and sister had arrived and were admiring the view. I approached and told them about what I had seen and my amazement at this place. We explored some more, took some photos to remember what we had seen, and found the remains of a fire from an aboriginal fire, possibly hundreds of years old but preserved on this time stopping rock. Thinking of the ages that had been and gone while this single rock had stood frozen continued to amaze me. It was seen by some of the first human cultures hundreds of thousands of years ago, before dinosaurs would of swum around it during its time submerged in an ancient sea, before that who knows what might of seen it? If it could speak, what stories would it tell? Hours had passed since I first set off, and it was time to head back to the confines of the minibus. Coming back down, I didn’t mind leaving as I felt as though no matter how much we are told about the world, no matter how much information we are fed through the media, television and how much our governments try to shrink our perception of the world, it is still a truly vast place that should be appreciated for its wonders and the ones it may still hold. Reaching the base again, and looking back at where I had been, I decided that I wanted to see these wonders in my lifetime. How to cite Descriptive Writing – Ayer’s Rock, Essays

You should use some basic information such in this report such as: a. A description of the core business of the company including full details of its operating activities. b. A discussion on any significant issues emerging from the Directors Report. c. A discussion on the Corporate Governance Statement. d. A calculation of the key financial ratios for 2015 f. Other information Answesr: 1. Introduction and Brief findings When it comes to consumer electronics, Dicksmith Holding Ltd is the first name that flashes on peoples minds. It is based in Australia and its key operations aim to provide their customers with a strong and reliable channel platform. Because of this policy of customer satisfaction, Dicksmith has attained the position of the most convenient and largest retailer of consumer electronics and its stores have massively expanded worldwide reaching a scale of 393. Consumers are provided with a high sense of convenience by these strong, structured and integrated platforms so that consumers can shop through the stores or at the go or even from their houses (Dicksmith, 2015). Despite these benefits over other competitors, there came a time when some of the stores of Dicksmith Ltd had to be closed down that made the company opt for better opportunities and redevelop its processes. Although some of the stores had to be closed down, yet the company did not lose hope and it strived to open further stores across Australia and New Zealand. Moreover, the company does not have to worry because it enjoys goodwill and brand appeal in the market that keens to sell a wide variety of products ranging from entertainment to computers and other accessories (Dicksmith, 2015). In the year 2013, a very different concept named MOVE was launched that aimed to focus on the consumer electronics along with fashion and in relation to this, it concentrated on connectivity in order to provide a widespread variety of different products like mobile phones, computers, headphones and other accessories etc. Latest products relating to consumer electronics as well as fashionable accessor ies are provided by the company as the range of its concept MOVE are regularly updated. For customers satisfaction and maintenance of high fashion theme all around, the company maintains strong relations with the leading designers and it also aims to diversify the MOVE stores to gain more efficiency in the market. From the strategies and operations of the company, it can be clearly observed that the company purposes to cater to the requirements of the customers and fulfill them. 2. Director Report A directors report of a company can help to ascertain any information regarding the directors and at any time. From the directors report of Dicksmith Holding Ltd, the number of meetings held by the company can be witnessed together with the directors who attended the meetings. It is observed that there were nine meetings of directors, three meetings related to remuneration and nomination committee and four meetings relating to audit and finance were held during the financial year. The Board of company has appointed the remuneration committee that aims to provide support to the Board itself and helps in deciding the remuneration of directors and other executives. It also provides help in attracting beneficial employees for the company and retaining the old employees whose value is very helpful for the company (Lubatkin, 2007). By this process, shareholders value can be created by way of both long-term and short-term investment scheme. The remuneration of directors and executives are d ecided by way of their performance and remuneration environment and it is paid irrespective of any factors like gender, age etc. It can be observed from the annual report of the company that it has followed all the statutory regulations by ensuring compliance and providing transparency associated with the remuneration process in the report. It can also be understood that there does not exist any kind of scheme associated with retirement benefits of non-executive directors and the annual report also makes this clear. The directors report also portrayed attention on insurance, indemnity deeds and right to inspect and access the books of accounts of the company by every director (Crane Matten, 2010). It is however a matter of issue that the seven year term might be extended by the company where specific assessments starts to operate before the expiry period of seven year. The company can take steps to indemnify the employees as well as the directors against the liabilities but the directors are altogether satisfied with the provisions of non-audit services in the year. The directors report of the company provides an opinion that independence of director is safeguarded that is it can neither be influenced nor be compromised by the services disclosed in the report (Crane Matten, 2010). Other issues portrayed through this report relate to the exchange rates, differences in consumer demands, competition and discretionary nature of spending etc. 3. Corporate Governance An authorization in written form has been adopted by the Board of Dicksmith Holding Ltd which is helpful in providing sheer strength to the operations of company. This authorization or charter contains information on the role, responsibility and composition of the Board, delegation of authority etc and this charter can be availed from dicksmithholding.com.au website. Also, the interest of shareholders has been given due concern by the Board by complying with the principles of corporate governance that has in turn enabled the company to take advantage of various opportunities, assess and evaluate its performance (Goergen, 2012). The annual report contains details on the code of conduct of executives, directors and other employees that ensures the concept of transparency. Dicksmith Ltd has also been able to frame the Audit Committee and align it with the principles of Corporate Governance. This committee comprises of three non-executive members and majority of them are independent members (Benz Fray, 2007). The corporate governance principles of the company not only ensure transparency in the company but it also pursues high values of ethics and morality that makes the company advantageous over others (Cogan, 2009). This strong ethics is required to be followed and maintained by every member of the organization. The company has also introduced a risk management team in order to counter the risks and evaluate the power of framework. This team or committee contains three members and majority is independent (Corporate Governance principles, 2014). Combining the work efficacy of internal audit with the risk management team helps to prevent various hurdles in the company and thus enhancing its operations (Lubatkin, 2007). 4. Ratio Analysis a. Current ratio The current ratio is one of the major ratios that stress on the liquidity position of the company. It helps in providing an answer that whether the company has proper set of assets to meet the obligations. The ideal ratio is 2:1 that means the company have current asset of $1 for every $2 of current liability (Guerard, 2013). For Dicksmith, the current ratio has declined marginally. This indicates that the current liabilities increased more than the increment in the current assets. Current ratio 2014 2015 Current asset 335906 389979 Current Liabilities 266807 316527 Current ratio =current asset/ current liabilities 1.258985 1.232056 b. Acid test ratio It is a better indicator than the current ratio because it eliminates the component of inventory at the very beginning (Guerard, 2013). The ideal ratio here is 1:1 but in case of Dicksmith the quick ratio is marginally lower and indicates the ratio is not ideal. Moreover, it is an alert for the management as a whole. Quick ratio 2014 2015 Quick Asset 82092 96935 Current liabilities 266807 316527 Quick ratio =quick assets/ current liabilities 0.307683 0.306246 c. Receivable turnover The receivable turnover projects that the receivable are collected 5 times a year and moreover, it remains unchanged both the years. It is needed to have a strong receivable turnover for better operations. Receivable turnover 2014 2015 Net credit sales 1227604 1319670 Average inventory 253814 273429 Receivable turnover = net credit sales/ average inventory 4.836628 4.826372 d. Inventory Turnover This ratio projects that inventory is sold 4 times a year and remained unchanged in both the years. However, the management must ensure that the inventory are sold regularly that will stabilize the companys inventory turnover ratio. Inventory turnover 2014 2015 cost of goods sold 919602 992828 Average inventory 253814 273429 Inventory turnover ratio = cost of goods sold/average inventory 3.623133 3.631027 e. Net profit Margin This ratio portrays the net profit to sales. The computation of this ratio indicates that there has been an increment in the net profit margin (Gibson, 2012). However, the ratio is lower and this can be cited due to less net profit. Net Profit Margin 2014 2015 Net Profit 19826 37905 Revenue 1227604 1319670 NP Margin =- Net profit/revenue *100 1.615016 2.872309 f. Gross profit margin This ratio is the ratio of gross profit to sales. The gross profit margin of Dicksmith has dropped marginally indicating that the management has not been able to have a strong control over the cost of goods sold (Horngren, 2013). GP margin 2014 2015 Gross Profit 308002 326842 Revenue 1227604 1319670 GP margin = gross profit/revenue *100 25.08969 24.76695 g. Assets turnover The Asset turnover ratio highlights the management effort to generate revenue. Therefore, a high ratio is required and is even an ideal one. For Dicksmith the ratio has declined that indicates the management has not been able to utilize the assets in a profitable manner (Gibson, 2012). A higher ratio projects a strong situation but the ratio has dropped in this case. Asset turnover ratio 2014 2015 Sales 1227604 1319670 Total assets 451171 508521 Asset turnover ratio = sales/ Total assets 2.720928 2.595114 h. Return on Assets The main aim of this ratio is to stress the way in which the utilization of the assets are done. The ratio is very poor for Dicksmith that implies the improper utilization. Therefore, the management must pay heed to this ratio to derive strong returns (Horngren, 2013). Return on assets 2014 2015 Net income 19826 37905 Avg total Assets 451171 479846 Return on assets = net income/ Avg total Assets 0.043943 0.078994 i. Return on Equity Return in equity implies the manner in which the equity has been utilized to generate returns (Brigs, 2013). The ratio has enhanced in the year 2015 that gives an implication of the better use of the component of equity. Return on equity 2014 2015 Net income 19826 37905 shareholder equity 166940 169147 Return on equity = net income/ shareholder equity 0.118761 0.224095 j. Earnings per share EPS can be termed as the share of the portion of the company that is attached to every share of common stock that is outstanding in nature. When the EPS is higher, the company has a higher profitability scenario and vice versa (Brigs, 2013). EPS for Dicksmith has declined in 2015 that is not a strong indicator. Earnings per share 2014 2015 0.16 0.08 5. Evidence of Optimism The most relevant motive of a listed company is to safeguard the shareholders interests and Dicksmith Holding Ltd successfully fulfills this motive. The security holders of company are being given accurate and adequate information by making proper disclosures so that they can exercise their rights efficiently. Optimism of Dicksmith is clearly evident from its reports and several other widespread discussions. Dicksmith Holding Ltd is being identified as one of the biggest equity heist of all times as it successfully transformed $10 million to $520 million and that too within two years. The private equity assumes a special place of importance as it is considered as one of the most biggest ever witnessed. All these information about the company and its governance can be availed through the website and it can be learnt how a ten million dollar company got transformed into such a massive company in a short period. The regular participation of security holders and communication with the company also favored the company and fetched various benefits. This showcases the strong relations of the company and hence also provides an evidence of optimism as the shareholders are attracted when their interests are safeguarded and when the company has strong fundamentals (Lemke, 2014). Conclusion It can be observed that corporate governance has played a major role in enhancing the management of the company and making the company reach significant heights. After getting listed and following the ASX principles, Dicksmith witnessed significant growth within one year itself as it successfully complied with all the required obligations. But it is to be noted that in relation to the growth of company, it is the Board that must be complimented. The main reason is that the concepts of disclosure helped the company to gain a firm position on the minds of shareholders. Through a ratio analysis of the company, it can be observed that the company has performed well and has a strong future and only a few ratios must be stressed upon. But the reason that led the downfall of Dicksmith and made it enter into receivership is that it failed to acquire required funds in order to back up the business. Even in 2015, the sales and cash position of the company were significantly below expectations that was due to a poor point in the last quarter of the year. But however the major failure witnessed are the companys inabilities to provide finance for re-stocking. Going by the entire discussion and highlighting on various ratios it can be commented that Dickmsith is not a good bet at the current point of time because liquidity position is shaken as indicated by the quick ratio. Moreover, net profit margin is not strong to provide solidity. The other ratios like asset turnover, equity turnover are projecting a weak scenario. Video Game And Violent Video Games Example For Students

Video Game And Violent Video Games Along with the rapid development of the internet in recent years, game and violence game have become companions of young people. We could not deny the fact that video game already has strong attraction for many people. Especially in today’s society, when work pressure is growing, gaming is an effective solution to relieve tension, dispel feeling of fatigue, anxiety. Playing the normal video game, which it not include any violence scenes, plus regulatory reasonable playing time can help players relaxed and balanced in terms of psychological after hours of studying, and working hard. But a lot of current game players do not like the game that bring the gently feeling, they want to experience a new kind of game, which make up a stronger feeling, and be able to do thing that they would not be able to do in the real world. This is one major reason that make people who enjoy to play violence video game have increase, and difficult to abandon this kind of game. A lot of people think that when you often playing violent video game, you will easy be haunted by the feeling of the spectacle going on in the game, and this will lead to the violation of real life. There is also an argument that violent video game did not affect the players because it is just a game, and it not real. The players should be able to tell what is real and what is virtual. In my opinion, playing violent video game did not affect to people behavior. Instead of that, playing violent video game is a benefit to people life because it can help you relax, and be able to do things that you won’t allowed to do in the real life world. We will write a custom essay on Video Game And Violent Video Games specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now A lot of parent think that violent video game will affect their kid behavior, so they forbid their children to play this kind of game. In recent day, there are a lot of teenager shooting case, and this make everyone blame video game. Parent think that these kid is affected by the violent game, which is allow the player to shoot and killing people. They always think that when their children is playing violent video game, it will affect their children in real life because when the players is too addicted to the game, it will lead to virtual confuse, then all the acts that seemed innocuous in the game will taming the player’s mind, and control the players’ behavior. They scare that their children will have violence behavior and bully the people around them. But in my opinion, children’s behavior is not depend what video game they are playing, it is depend on the behavior of the people around them, such as their parents or the people who they are living with. When the kid is still little, they will watch and copy how the adult act and talk because they are learning. So, when a children still little, the adult has to shows their kid that violent is bad, and they will not allowed to act violent. As long as people understand that violent is wrong, they will not be affected by any of the violent video game, even they have played it every day. For example, my brother is only third teen years old this year, and he have played a lot of game that is listed as violent such as The Last of Us and Grant Theft Auto. He very enjoy the game and even playing it every day after his homework. But, he have not sign of violent, and these game did not seem like affected him. He know that game is just a game, and he did not allowed to act like his game’s character in real life. He enjoy playing this kind of game because he is free to do everything he want to and experience things that he won’t be able to do in his real life. He did not seem to confuse about real world and virtual world. Another example to support this is Japan, a paradise of comic book and video game. The comic books in the past and probably the gaming going on now has focused on sex and crime. Supposedly, the male population has not translated this into everyday life. Japan is also knows as the country that have the lowest percent of criminal. So, violent video game did not affect player behavior in their real life. .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 , .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .postImageUrl , .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 , .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:hover , .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:visited , .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:active { border:0!important; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:active , .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2 .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u801fe91e0858573dfc16ba789c2280f2:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Violent Video GamesThe players will not be effect by any violent act in the video game unless they already have some issue with their own personality. According to Harvard Health Publication, Dr. Patrick Markey of Villanova University and Dr. Charlotte Markey of Rutgers University have done an experiment on some children, and concluded that there are the combination of three personal trait that make some children and think aggressively after playing a violent video game. There three traits were high neuroticism, which make people easy to upset; disagreeableness, who fair to other people; and low levels of conscientiousness, who always acting first before thinking (1). If y ou are the kind of person who have these traits, then you will easier to get effected by the violent game. For example, if someone make you angry, you will think that why you could not hit them or shoot them like you did in your video game. Because you already have that thought on your mind, so when they are continue to arouse you, then you will take your chance to fight with them before you can think of how do your choices could affect you. You will did exactly like what you did in the game without knowing that this is not a game. But, with the people who did not have these traits of personality, they will think before they take their action. They always wanted to know what they are doing. So, it is not because of the violent video game that affect people, it is all because of their personality that they have make them become violent. Instead of making people become violence, some research shows that violent video game help to reduce the rate of criminal in the real life. According to the Times Herald, Professor Patrick M. Markey have believe that the rate of shooting will increase when the new violent video game has released. But the result have surprised him. Instead of increase the rate of shooting criminal in the country, the shooting criminal have been decrease. He think that the criminal is too busy to playing game, so violent video may work to reduce the rate of criminal (2). Criminal is shooting people because they are angry. They did not know what to do to make themselves feel better. They might have trouble with their family or work that force them to hurt someone. Or they just want to experience something that they have not done before. Playing violent video game is give them all of that benefit without be consider as a criminal. So, when the new violent game have released, they will rather spend time to enjoying it than actually shooting someone. Violent video game have been release all around the world, and nearly all the men are playing it, so you could not conclude that violence video game will cause violent. If violent video game have allowed to sell and play all around the world, then it is show that it will not cost any issue by playing it because if there are any issue, the government would not allowed it to be legal for teen to play. These kind of game already been very popular in today society. There are also some specific fans page for each game, which allowed player to connect, get to know each other and share experience of playing the game. There are a lot of governor that have played violent video game, and there may be some governor still playing, and they may be a fan of it. It is not only male playing this kind of game, some female also a big fans of it. Since everyone are playing this kind of game, we could not conclude that there is a relationship between violent video game and the criminal just because of s ome people who commit criminal also playing this kind of game. .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 , .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .postImageUrl , .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 , .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:hover , .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:visited , .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:active { border:0!important; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:active , .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5 .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2fe78cdb5c40a8e0680e232194603ce5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Violent Video Games And ViolenceIn today society, violent video game already has a strong attraction to a lot of people. Some people might think that this kind of game is bad, and they won’t allowed their children or grandchildren to playing this game. They think that violent game will make their children become violent. But, they are wrong. Their children behavior is not something that the game can change. It is depend on what people they are growing up with. Violent game will only be able to affect those people who already have their own personality issue. But for these people, they need to consider about if they should playing these kind of game. If they choose t o play, then it is their choices, it not that violent video game affected on them. This kind of game are so popular, and already release to all around the world, and there is no evident to really show that there is relationship between violent game and criminal. So, I believe that violent video game is just a game, It do not have anything to do with changing players behavior or personality.

Mans Journey into Self in Heart of Darkness and A Essays

Mans Journey into Self in Heart of Darkness and A Essays Mans Journey into Self in Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now English Mans Journey into Self in Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now Hu240 Inherent inside every human soul is a savage evil side that remains repressed by society. Often this evil side breaks out during times of isolation from our culture, and whenever one culture confronts another. History is loaded with examples of atrocities that have occurred when one culture comes into contact with another. Whenever fundamentally different cultures meet, there is often a fear of contamination and loss of self that leads us to discover more about our true selves, often causing perceived madness by those who have yet to discover. The Puritans left Europe in hopes of finding a new world to welcome them and their beliefs. What they found was a vast new world, loaded with Indian cultures new to them. This overwhelming cultural interaction caused some Puritans to go mad and try to purge themselves of a perceived evil. This came to be known as the Salem witch trials. During World War II, Germany made an attempt to overrun Europe. What happened when the Nazis came into power and persecuted the Jews in Germany, Austria and Poland is well known as the Holocaust. Here, humans evil side provides one of the scariest occurrences of this century. Adolf Hitler and his Nazi counterparts conducted raids of the ghettos to locate and often exterminate any Jews they found. Although Jews are the most widely known victims of the Holocaust, they were not the only targets. When the war ended, 6 million Jews, Slavs, Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Communists, and others targeted by the Nazis, had died in the Holocaust. Most of these deaths occurred in gas chambers and mass shootings. This gruesome attack was motivated mainly by the fear of cultural intermixing which would impurify the "Master Race." Joseph Conrads book, The Heart of Darkness and Francis Coppolas movie, Apocalypse Now are both stories about Mans journey into his self, and the discoveries to be made there. They are also about Man confronting his fears of failure, insanity, death, and cultural contamination. During Marlows mission to find Kurtz, he is also trying to find himself. He, like Kurtz had good intentions upon entering the Congo. Conrad tries to show us that Marlow is what Kurtz had been, and Kurtz is what Marlow could become. Every human has a little of Marlow and Kurtz in them. Marlow says about himself, "I was getting savage (Conrad)," meaning that he was becoming more like Kurtz. Along the trip into the wilderness, they discover their true selves through contact with savage natives. As Marlow ventures further up the Congo, he feels like he is traveling back through time. He sees the unsettled wilderness and can feel the darkness of its solitude. Marlow comes across simpler cannibalistic cultures along the banks. The deeper into the jungle he goes, the more regressive the inhabitants seem. Kurtz had lived in the Congo, and was separated from his own culture for quite some time. He had once been considered an honorable man, but the jungle changed him greatly. Here, secluded from the rest of his own society, he discovered his evil side and became corrupted by his power and solitude. Marlow tells us about the Ivory that Kurtz kept as his own, and that he had no restraint, and was " a tree swayed by the wind (Conrad, 209)." Marlow mentions the human heads displayed on posts that "showed that Mr. Kurtz lacked restraint in the gratification of his various lusts (Conrad, 220)." Conrad also tells us "his nerves went wrong, and caused him to preside at certain midnight dances ending with unspeakable rights, which were offered up to him (Conrad, 208)," meaning that Kurtz went insane and allowed himself to be worshipped as a god. It appears that while Kurtz had been isolated from his culture, he had become corrupted by this violent native culture, and allowed his evil side to control him. Marlow realizes that only very near the time of death, does a person grasp the big picture. He describes Kurtzs last moments "as though a veil had been rent (Conrad, 239)." Kurtzs last "supreme moment of complete knowledge (Conrad, 239)," showed him how horrible the human soul really can be. Marlow can only speculate as to what Kurtz saw that caused him to exclaim "The horror! The horror," but later adds that "Since I peeped over the edge myself, I understand better the meaning of his stare it was wide enough

In this campaign, Sonic Drive-In has an opportunity to increase market share in the fast food market. Problems that might be faced during this exercise in order to reach our target public include the following. Firstly, it will be difficult and time consuming in covering schools, in the whole country. This will prove to be an enormous undertaking. It will also be difficult to come up with a schedule that will accommodate all the schools in the country. Finding a schedule that will suit them all will be a big challenge. Since we cannot go school by school, we will have to pick strategic locations for this event that will attract the largest group of our public. This will be a challenge since the success of this campaign relies on numbers. We will have to deliberate carefully to identify the most suitable venues for this event. The main opportunity created in this campaign for Sonic Drive-In will be to increase its share in the fast food market in the United States. It will increase its customer base through its target public. Education Regulation Law Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Education Regulation Law - Research Paper Example It is evidently clear from the discussion that not attending school leads to poor academic performance and lack of educational success, both contributing factors when discussing juvenile delinquency, an issue that is becoming more and more prevalent as time goes on. Many factors exist as to why a juvenile will not or does not attend school. Perhaps a juvenile has failed to bond at school, has no friends or reliable relationships among his or her peers (Flores, 2003). A juvenile that does not have any friendships among their peers, or feels isolated and alone, will often choose not to go to school, and thus jeopardize their chances of educational success. In young children aged eight to eleven, poor academic performance has been related to serious later delinquency (Flores, 2003). Another contributing factor to failed bonding is the fact that not attending school leads to poor socialization, and thus the feeling of isolation deepens even more. Students who are chronic underachievers t end to be the most at-risk group for juvenile delinquency (Seigel & Welsh, 2010). In all of these situations, a juvenile will most likely choose not to attend school, instead of finding something else to do with their time. The actions that they choose could well lead them down the path of juvenile delinquency. Education has been widely promoted by all sources surrounding juveniles, from family to the media to the schools themselves (Seigel & Welsh, 2010). Most juveniles have been trained to accept the fact that education itself holds the keys to success, whether that success is measured in a better job, more money, or a better way of life (Seigel & Welsh, 2010). However, many juveniles may feel that they do not meet the acceptable standards for educational success, whether that success is measured in test scores, promotions, rewards, or other measures (Seigel & Welsh, 2010). In measuring themselves, often juveniles are their own worst critics, feeling that they will never be good a t anything; therefore school and education are a waste of time. They feel that this time could be better spent learning â€Å"life skills†, skills that all too often lead to a life of juvenile delinquency. No matter what the forces are behind a juvenile feeling as though education will not be of any use to them at all, it is clear that early intervention is necessary to determine who and where the most at-risk youth are. Oddly enough, the first intervention taking place in school may already be too late for some juveniles. It has been shown that parents have a vital role in the success of their offspring, and positive relationships between family members only serve to heighten the chances of educational success (Adedokun & Balschweid, 2008). If an early intervention takes place and identifies possible situations that may not be of benefit to a juvenile, measures can be taken such as family counseling and other assistance that may promote and save the educational career of a j uvenile and prevent them from starting any form of juvenile delinquency. Another important factor of note is the juvenile themselves. All juveniles do not learn the same way; just as adults do not all enjoy the same hobby or pastime. To expect every juvenile to learn the same way, by sitting in a classroom and listening to a lecture, may be expecting too much.

Need For Effective Leadership Consequences Of Ineffective Leadership Management Essay

Need For Effective Leadership Consequences Of Ineffective Leadership Management Essay Leadership can be viewed as a process of influencing activities and actions of an organized group or team in its efforts towards setting goals and achieving goals. (Stogdill, 1990). A leader is an individual who considerably affects the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of a considerable number of individuals. (Gardner, 1995). Leadership is a process; it is comprised of more than the leader and the situation (Church, 1998). When viewed in the terms of organizations leadership is considered to be a special contribution because it makes a significant difference to the success of the organization. (Tjosvold and Wong, 2000). When leadership is effective in an organization ordinary can be transformed into extraordinary and this leads to satisfaction of customers, employees and top management, i.e. all are content and satisfied. (Tjosvold and Wong, 2000). The four Vs of Leadership have been considered as critical when defining it; they are vision, values, value-Added, and vitality. (Shaw, 2006). There are various viewpoints from which leadership has been defined previously, including individual traits, behaviours, contextual perspectives, and combinations of these viewpoints. (Taormina, Robert. J, 2008). Need for Effective Leadership- Consequences of Ineffective Leadership Leadership in an organization must focus on the essential actions and behaviours of the leaders if view of the following ill consequences and hence it is extremely important to develop the quality of leaders and continuously improvise on managers abilities to lead the organizational teams. (Georgenson, 2009) 1. Leaders not providing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time) targets to their employees: o Low synchronisation of personal and organizational objectives o Workforce may become unproductive o Lack of clarity regarding what is to be achieved o Frustration may build among the workforce (Source: www.learnmarketing.net) 2. If leaders are not providing clear, positive and instant opinion about the employees work standard and results achieved. o Reluctance among the employees regarding managers interest in the work. o Unproductive behaviours may persist leading to long term loss in productivity of workforce. 3. If leaders do not provide continuous improvement avenues. o Employees waste time looking for ways to become better o Employees employ irrelevant activity for improvement o Development of employees is restricted leading to less productive workforce 4. If leaders are unable to provide for effective performance appraisal o Continuation of poor performance o Employees consider their current performance as acceptable o Problems in meeting targets set for future (Georgenson, 2009) Beyond achieving performance related organizational goals effective leadership makes an organization capable of meeting contemporary challenges in todays business environment such as need for competitive advantage, ensuring ethical behaviour and achieving productivity through a diverse workforce in global companies in a fair and equitable manner. (Jones George, 2004) Teamwork- The Spirit of Successful Organizations A team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable. (Katzenbach and Smith).Teamwork not only promotes a sense of comradeship within an organization, it is also transmitted to all clients or customers who do business with the organization. (Twomey Kleiner, 1996). Teamwork may have two kinds of objectives: co-ordinating and innovating. Teamwork can be a measure to open the horizontal communication among the hierarchies, and it adds to the flexibility of the whole organization. (Nurmi, 1996). Combining Teamwork and Leadership Teamwork facilitates management and leadership, and it helps improve communication and saves the time of both the employees and management. Teamwork in companies is structured. A team has a team leader who coordinates with the team members in defining and achieving other roles, objectives, accountability, schedules and deadlines. (Nurmi, 1996). In present day companies and in modern management teamwork is a necessity. There is a necessity of teamwork in a functional organization where they are needed for the co-ordination of different departments because all the departments in the organization are partly responsible for the collective performance of the whole organization as a unit. (Nurmi, 1996). Challenges for leadership A research conducted by C.D. McCauley, Ohlott Ruderman, 1999 helped in identifying five basic categories of challenges for leadership. (C.D. McCauley, Ohlott Ruderman, 1999, cited in: Antonakis, John, Ciancolo, Anna. T., Sternberg, Robert, 2004). These are: a) Creation of a change by taking the organization in new directions; addressing problems of previous leadership and decide in the face of uncertainty. b) Management at higher levels of responsibility and commitment as the leaders decisions guide the organizations moves. c) Management of issues related to leaders authority on other people. d) Effective management of diversity within an organizational culture. e) Being unflappable during job transitions, change of responsibilities and building relationships. I as a Consultant- Advices and Suggestions My advices in relation to the improvement of leadership and enhancing teamwork skills and performance levels and productivity. I will be predominantly citing examples from the global outsourcing and consulting giant; Infosys Technologies Ltd. My suggestions for improvement of leadership levels would be the following. They have been categorized into several strategic intentions and actions towards developing the leadership skills. They are: 1. Leaders need to build self esteem among the employees who follow them. They must seek their advice on the issues and make them feel important. In this way the employees will feel that they are needed and will be more than willing to work for the leaders. Its also important for the leaders to understand the employees needs for appraisal and motivation in several forms. Being a good leader means that they understand the people they work with and respect them for their contribution. Infosys points out that moral intelligence is new to the analytical playing field, and highlights four key principles that can sustain moral intelligence: Integrity; Responsibility; Compassion; Forgiveness. (Ethics, success and leadership the Infosys way, 2006) 1. Integrity is creating harmony between what we believe and how we act, doing what we know is right (and this definitely includes telling the truth at all times). 2. Responsibility is a person who is willing to take responsibility for their own actions, and the consequences only by taking this responsibility do you stay true to core values. 3. Compassion is broadened to include caring about others, which then shows our respect for others. It also has a boomerang effect, because generally when a compassionate person is in trouble, we return compassion to them. 4. Forgiveness is a key principle because without a tolerance for mistakes and acknowledgement of human imperfection, we are likely to be rigid and inflexible, thereby reducing the common good.

erereCreate Your Own Emergency Boot Disk :: essays research papers

Hardware Tips: Create Your Own Emergency Boot Disk Create an emergency boot disk, identify mysterious components. Pop quiz: Windows won't start. Do you: A. Panic; B. Take a siesta; C. Calmly smile as you pull out your customized emergency boot disk, use it to start your computer, and proceed to fix your system? If you answered C, I commend you. If you chose B, I envy you. But if you picked A, I can help. It's time for you to make an emergency boot disk that does the standard Windows version one better. Every version of Windows 9x lets you make an emergency boot floppy disk. When you boot from the floppy, Windows takes you to a DOS prompt where you can run DOS utility programs to evaluate and repair your hard disk, fix Windows, copy critical data to a safe location, or (in the worst case) reinstall Windows. Creating a boot floppy is the same in all versions of Windows 9x and in Me: Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, open the Add/Remove applet, select the Startup Disk tab, and click Create Disk. (You'll need a blank, formatted floppy disk.) If Windows is already misbehaving and you can't make a boot floppy, insert your Windows 98 or Windows Me CD-ROM and reboot. Check the boot options section of your system's CMOS setup program to find out whether your PC supports CD-ROM boot-up. To open your CMOS setup program, restart your computer and press Delete, F1, F8, or whatever key your PC tells you to press to enter setup. If your system can boot from its CD-ROM, you'll see the same DOS prompt brought up by the boot floppy; the CD-ROM lacks many of the floppy's DOS utilities, however. Windows boot floppies contain useful DOS troubleshooting utilities, but they lack some of the key files you'll need to get your system up and running. CD-ROM drive. You need special DOS drivers for your PC's CD-ROM drive to run under DOS. Windows 98 and Me boot disks automatically install generic DOS drivers that work with many, if not most, CD-ROM drives. To see if you're in the driver's seat, use your boot floppy to get a DOS prompt, place a CD in the CD-ROM drive, and type dir n: (where n is the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive). If you see a list of the files on the CD, the DOS driver works. If you don't see a list of the CD's files, make sure you're looking under the right drive letter.

Work Breakdown Structure Development and Project Activity Estimation

Work Breakdown Structure Development and Project Activity Estimation Charmaine Allen Professor Michael Chu November 15, 2013 In working on the migration for the financial services legacy system to a Web-based cloud solution, I took into consideration the project management plan, the technical planning, the Cloud Web migration specification and the system testing. In addition, I considered the Support Services to include Configuration Management which will monitor any changes and finally the Migration of the system.Project management is ery Important for any IT project to stay on track, each step Is critical to the success of the project. The different planning stages are the map for the project setting up the steps for the project team to follow. In some of the stages the team members are Involved, that allows the opportunity to be part of the planning stage. According to Jack Marchewka, â€Å"The purpose of risk analysis and assessment is to determine what opportunities and threats should be addressed†. In identifying possible risk in the plan, there Is the risk of over extending the team members, you can burnout the eam members quickly.Mitigation would be redistributing the work among the team, or there may be a need to add additional staff. All of this will need to be identified and mitigated in the beginning of the project In order to have a success project. Another risk would be to make changes without documentation, to mitigate this risk; Configuration management must be engaged in all discussions and decisions of changes. The third risk Is lack of communication and mitigation means keeping all parting engaged in progress of the project. Making sure everyone on the team is ncluded in all communications. http://www.techrepublic.com/article/four-steps-for-reducing-project-risk/http://www.techrepublic.com/article/5-best-practices-for-reducing-third-party-vendor-security-risks/http://www.techrepublic.com/article/seven-steps-for-avoiding-scope-creep/http://www.scc.com/news/horizons-blog-using-technology-to-reduce-project-risk-in-the-construction-industry/https://bia.ca/10-easy-rules-to-reduce-risks-on-projects/

Global Warming A persuasive speech Essay Example

Global Warming A persuasive speech Essay Example Global Warming A persuasive speech Paper Global Warming A persuasive speech Paper Essay Topic: Persuasive Renewable energy Then theres the economic costs of climate change loss of tourism, loss of bobs, loss Of fish, farmers battling, food prices through the roof, astronomical costs from more frequent natural disasters, the list goes on. It almost sounds like a mad Max scenario, but the sad fact is, its far from fiction. Im Matt Handmaids from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and I believe that as the caretakers of this planet we must strive together to reduce our carbon emissions and Save the blackcurrants:Weve all heard about Climate Change and youve now heard me list some of its disastrous effects, but what exactly causes it? And what can we do about it? Len a nutshell, lobar warming, known as climate change, is the heating up of our world. It is the result of huge amounts of CO being pumped into the atmosphere, via the burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil to produce power and electricity and thousands and thousands of products, from plastic to makeup to the clothes that we wear. Ever since the industrial revolution in the early 19th century, man has been progressively burning more and more fossil fuels. In fact, in recent times the burning of fossil fuels has been releasing more than a shocking 3 billion metric tones of CO per year, which has been effectively increasing the lobar temperature of the world and disrupting vital climate systems. We are all global citizens. We all have access to information, facts, figures and statistics that undeniably prove climate change exists. We all depend on our earth for clean air, for food and water, for resources, for our livelihoods. We are all consumers. We are all contributing to climate change. We are all responsible for our actions. : We are all obligated to do something about it. If not to save our own skins, think about our children, and our childrens children. Do you want them to inherit a devastated world, knowing full well that we contributed to its destruction? Do we want to be the generation that could have done something real, but instead chose to continue down this selfish road of pollution, alarming consumption and total disregard for the world we live in. Lets be the people that change the course of history. The three biggest contributors to climate change are man-made, but all three of them can, and will be solved with your efforts. PROBLEM 1: Massive carbon interferometers corporations like the oil- producing BP Billion, aluminum giant Alcoa, and of course the coal burning mega factories that supply our electricity rely on the burning fossil fuels, ND are contributing huge amounts of emissions each year. They are literally pumping tones of the toxic gases into the atmosphere that are slowly poisoning our planet. These powerful companies have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are, they dont want to see change because their profit depends on it. Some oil-mining companies even try and deny the existence of global warming whatsoever, just so they dont have to take responsibility for the huge part they play. Wonder what their grandchildren will think of them when they realize that they chose profit over keeping our world healthy. But hinges need to change, and with your help they can. As individuals we have the power to help solve every one of them. Every individual can play an important part. PROBLEM 2. Energy constitutionalisms we are not the ones creating the energy, we are the ones consuming it. The amount of energy produced is merely the amount we demand. The average Australian household uses 8,900 kHz per year, which equates to roughly two and a half tones of carbon emissions per household a year. The amount of energy we are using is incredible and reducing it is a vital step towards stopping the onslaught of climate change. PROBLEM 3. Transportations 8% of the worlds carbon emissions is directly created by you and me. How many of you own more than two cars? How many bayou live on a bus route, but have never caught it before? How many of you drive to the shops if its only a five-minute walk away? The car has become such an integral part of society that weve not realized the harm it is creating. There are many alternative options of transport that can significantly reduce carbon emissions and it is up to us, humanity to reduce it. But if we do not use these alternatives, we can only expect the worst for the futurologist 1 : For lilting the massive carbon emissions is our responsibility to put pressure on the government to enforce legislation to limit the amount of CO emissions produced by industries that produce raw goods, electricity and consumer products. And to commit to formal reduced emissions targets like Kyoto protocol. Let leaders know that polar bears living in the dwindling ice sheets of the arctic arent the only ones skating on thin ice. People power, such as petitions to local member of parliaments can elevate the topic to become an important election issue, which will create awareness n the community and put pressure on leaders to act Also, by not investing in, or purchasing products made by irresponsible corporations that recklessly pollute you CAN make a difference. We can also make a difference by encouraging the research into alternative, renewable and ecologically sustainable fuel sources. You can do this by investing in green energy companies, which not only means that youll be helping the environment, but making financial gains from whats expected to be a 50 billion dollar market by 2008. How to reduce energy consumption at home. If we are to make a serious attempt at reversing the severe harm caused by limited change we must not only change the way energy is produced, but also severely reduce the amount of energy we consume. Im not trying to say that we need to make huge sacrifices for the cause of lowering emissions, for I believe that when every single small reduction in energy consumption is put to process on a global scale, the decrease in carbon emissions is dramatic. For instance, if 1 million households replaced four traditional light bulbs with the much more energy efficient fluorescent variety, we could eliminate approximately 500,000 tones of carbon emissions per year. If we work gather, results like these can be achieved, but we must be unified in our fight to save this planet. Or how about when youre not using your computer? If 1 million people turned off their PCs every night, we could eliminate more than 50,000 tones of carbon emissions per year. Also, the increasing market in solar energy means that solar panels for either hot water heating or electricity generation are dropping in price, and purchasing these can significantly lower our dependence on energy grids, thus lowering your carbon output. How to travel, cleanly method of significantly reducing transport emissions is carpooling. The average commuter creates 3. tones Of CO per year and sharing your car with one other person will effectively halve this figure and create another step towards creating a stable climate. But it is up to you to take these actions. Using public transport instead of driving will also significantly reduce emissions and it is your duty as an inhabitant of this planet to do so. The most effective and efficient method of cutting down carbon emissions involves two wheels, and no carbon emissions. Im talking about the bike, and if 1 million people replaced an eight-kilometer car trip with cycling we could educe carbon emissions by an incredible 1 00,000 tones per year. If driving a car is unavoidable however, buying cars with high fuel efficiency, cars that run on clean diesel as well as petrol electric hybrids will still significantly reduce carbon emissions. Also, you may be wondering, what about flying overseas theres no alternative mode of transport for that! Well, by purchasing slightly more expensive tickets from environmentally aware carriers they will offset your emissions by either investing in green energy or using carbon credit trading. These are perfect examples of how individual actions can make huge preferences when we work together.

Look Back in Anger by John Osborne - The Incumbent Historical Debate Essay

Look Back in Anger by John Osborne - The Incumbent Historical Debate about Affluence and Social Mobility in Britain - Essay Example 11). This period foresaw a gargantuan change in the bargaining power hitherto accorded to the British working class. The high demands engendered by the war efforts allowed the working class to strive for a considerable change in their earning potential. Though the much vaunted mixing of the social classes was more a cherished ideal than an idea actually put into practice, it certainly gave way to much deeper concerns in the British class structure (Rebellato 1999, p. 11). On the one side where the working class resisted a possible reversion to the sidelined status of the interwar years, the upper middle class feared the newfound social mobility of the working class. It was a known fact that the British society of the late 50s was still deeply class conscious. Hence, no wonder the marital discord between Jimmy and Alison to a great extent originate from their diverse social-class origins. Jimmy is a young adherent of a newly upwardly mobile and educated working class. Though Jimmy has the benefit of a university education and he attained adulthood in the post war years, still he finds himself to be a missing link between the two social classes. In that context he really finds it really excruciating and enervating to trace the age old enemy that is decaying and dying Imperialism in the guise of his wife Alison and her upper middle-class, military background. Yet, there is no denying the fact that the thing that bothers Jimmy even more is his loss of connection with the working class to which he mentally affiliates with. Hence, no wonder, Jimmy ends up becoming the victim of a partly self imposed and partly unavoidable social alienation, which was common to many young people from the working class in the late 1950s and early 1960s (Kellaway 1999, p. 39). Consequently, Jimmy finds himself in the times and the space where the past and the present tend to cusp into an intricate amalgam of confused class affiliations and aspirations as is amply conveyed when he affirm s, â€Å"I suppose people of our generation aren’t able to die for good causes any longer. We had all that done for us, in the thirties and the forties, when we were still kids. ...There aren’t any good brave causes left (Osborne 1982, p. 84).† However, it goes without saying that this chaos caused by the mixing of classes and the commensurate social mobility was not merely a localized event, but rather a phenomenon that unfolded in the background of much large changes (Kellaway 1999, p. 39). Amidst this unavoidable social mobility, many of the characters in the play are ironically caught up in the past (Kellaway 1999, p. 39). Jimmy vividly remembers his working class childhood and the suffering associated with the slow death of his father. On the other side Colonel Redfern obsessively remembers his days as an agent of colonialism in India, the days that had fast drifted apart. All the segments of the society in a way mourned or resented the passing of an era th at was never to come again. This predicament is aptly grasped by Alison as she says, â€Å"You’re hurt because everything is changed. Jimmy is hurt because ever

Letter discussing favorite person in history Assignment

Letter discussing favorite person in history - Assignment Example Even though I had visited the Sistine Chapel a few times, but my visit had a special purpose this time. After this class in Humanities, I felt more sensitive towards the beauty of the Sistine Chapel. The frescos painted by Michelangelo fascinated me the most. In this paper, I would be discussing one particular fresco, The Creation of Adam. The Creation of Adam is one the most acclaimed fresco paintings created by the Italian sculptor and painter, Michelangelo. This painting holds an important place in art history because of the techniques involved in creating the painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The fresco is fourth part of a series of nine panels where Michelangelo has depicted stories from the Book of Genesis. In this particular painting, the artist intends to narrate the biblical scene when God gave life to Adam, the first man. However, Michelangelo here adds his own variation to the story. In the original biblical story, God breathed life into Adam through his nostrils. In the painting, on the other hand, God is giving life to Adam through just the touch of his finger. The painting depicts God stretching his hands to give life to Adam who is lying down listlessly while God, supported by his angels is giving life to Adam. Michelangelo has created a resemblance between God and Adam. He does this keeping in mind the Old Testament which states that Man is created in likeness with God. The perfect body of Adam has also been created to bear resemblance with God (Spielvogel, 256). At the same time, there is a stark contrast between the two. Michelangelo has been able to create God at a higher level than man. He does this by making God appear as a Celestine being who is flying in space with his angels. There is flexibility in God while Adam appears to be quite languid. This particular painting belongs to the Renaissance art period. Renaissance art was a

Current Issue Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Current Issue Analysis - Essay Example And today, according to the official terminology, Indian women continue to belong to the so-called weak groups. In my opinion such misunderstanding of the role of feminism and the importance of the defending of women’s rights takes place because of the lack of support from men’s and boys’ side. Emma Watson, who after she grew up, became not just a â€Å"Harry Potter Girl† but also UN Women Goodwill Ambassador at the HeForShe Campaign 2014 paid attention that fighting for women’s rights too often comes synonymous to men hating. And this has to stop. It is a real problem that women are choosing not to identify themselves as feminists. It is right to make possible for women to make decisions about own body. Women should be afforded the same respect as men. But there is no country in the world, where women may be sure they would receive these rights (Watson, 2014). Some days ago the Dailymail has published some shocking videos of the women being gang raped. The most awful is that the men caught on camera were smiling while carrying out the alleged attacks. And now this movement called #shametherapistcampaign fights against repeated incidents of extreme sexual violence towards Indian women. Sunitha Krishnan through her organisation Prajwala India, a womens rights NGO based in Hyderabad, India released the videos and images of the alleged attackers and in such way her #shametherapistcampaign was born. She got those videos from a concerned man, who â€Å"forwarded her the videos after they were sent to him on the messaging service WhatsApp†. After the campaign was launched on Indian national television, somebody tried to intimidate Mrs Krishnan by throwing rocks into the window of her vehicle (Charlton, 2015). Thus the issue of defending women rights is particularly important for Indian women. They are discriminated from infancy or even earlier, and I can prove this statement with lots of examples. In

Understanding 21st Century Skills in English Language Classrooms Essay Example for Free

Understanding 21st Century Skills in English Language Classrooms Essay In an increasingly complex, demanding and competitive world, students need to go beyond the traditional 3Rs and embrace the 4Cs – communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. This is the view of the 21st century Skills movement which is helping to redefine the goals of general education for today’s world. 21st Century Skills† is commonly refers to a growing global movement for redefining the goals of education, to transform every day teaching and learning practices, and to expand the range of measures that are being implemented for student achievement, all in order to meet the new demands of the 21st Century. In other words the main thrust of this movement is to make learners a productive contributors to upcoming society, for this it is necessary for the teachers to enable the learners to quickly learn the core content of a field of knowledge while also mastering a broad portfolio of essentials in learning, innovation, technology, and careers skills needed for work and life. Through multimodal activities, students will explore key elements of design such as color, shape, size, texture, density, and layout to understand and appreciate how these elements combine to convey the meaning. The demands of 21st century skills compel teachers to learn new technologies and discover ways to integrate them into their classrooms. Students are competing in a global economy, and their ability to think critically and apply knowledge at higher levels requires teachers to evaluate what and how they teach. Students and teachers are using technology to communicate, assemble and analyze information based on the demands of a changing workforce. We are no longer in an educational system that solely trains students to operate technology. Students must be able to critically think and develop the skills for lifelong learning. Teachers are focusing more on developing students’ personal dependability, perseverance, reflection, flexibility and self-discipline using 21st century strategies. Students are gathering and evaluating data, identifying viewpoints, making broad connections, considering alternatives, and making informed decisions. Teachers are creating opportunities for students to interact with each other in authentic learning experiences providing connections that are critical to developing students’ engagement, motivation, and attitudes about learning. Classrooms are beginning to reflect the media environment that students immerse themselves in on a daily basis. Using art and digital media, they will then create their own designs to express meaning for setting, character relationships, and plot. Students will realize how to use design elements to read images and how meaning in picture books is equally conveyed in both words and images. The term â€Å"learning environment† covers not only place and space (e. g. Home, a school, a classroom, a library, an online learning community), but the relationships that create a supportive environment for every child’s development. In the 21st century, learning environments should be seen as the support systems that organize the condition in which humans learn best–systems that accommodate the unique needs of every learner and support the positive human relationships needed for effective learning. Learning environments are the structures, tools and communities that inspire students and educators to attain the knowledge and skills the 21st century demands of us all. Teachers must utilize a variety of methods for the children to build their own understanding through real world applications interactions with their peers in many cooperative group activities. Life is a multimedia event, and the meanings that we secure from life are not simply contained in text; they yield their content through a wide variety of forms. The students need to have a deep understanding for the real world in order to become successful individuals and be more technologically enhanced. Students need to become more globally literate because many jobs are now more focused on those issues. Students need to know more about the world, think outside of the box, develop better people skills, and become smarter about selecting news sources. To do this it is important for teachers to keep up with the times and create a modern curriculum. One of the best ways to achieve global literacy is through communication, collaborative learning, research, and problem solving. Technology helps tremendously in these areas, so it is a great tool to use in the classroom. Not only that, but it will help the students to find more relevance in school as well. Today teachers need to prepare students for the jobs that have to be created, for the new products that have to be invented, and for the new skills required for bringing in creativity and innovation. In today’s classroom, the students have diverse backgrounds, a variety of achievement levels, and different learning styles which will all affect their ability to acquire knowledge. Teachers need to move away from the traditional methods of teaching and bring into the classroom new and innovating approaches to teach the content and lifelong skills. It is important to utilize a variety of techniques for the children to build their own understanding through real world applications and interactions with their peers in group activities. As the proponents of 21st century learning have propounded a set of educational goals, as in the learning framework the experts advocates for the integration of 4 C skills (Communication, Collaboration Critical thinking with problem solving and Creativity,) into the teaching of language skills such as English, reading or language arts, world languages. Teachers can cater to variation in the nature of their students’ aptitude by adopting a flexible teaching approach involving a variety of learning activities. They can also make use of simple learner-training materials designed to make students more aware of their own approaches to learning and to develop awareness of alternative approaches. Studies of good language learners suggest that successful language learning requires a flexible approach to learning. Thus, increasing the range of learning strategies at learners’ disposal is one way in which teachers can help them to learn. Such strategy training needs to foster an understanding that language learning requires both an experiential and an analytical approach. School-based students often tend to adopt an analytical approach to learning, even if this does not accord with their natural aptitude, as this is the kind of approach generally fostered in schools. They may have greater difficulty in adopting the kind of experiential approach required by task-based language teaching. Some learner training, therefore, may be essential if learners are to perform tasks effectively. Using the 21st Century Learning Methods to teach ESL or English as a second language is a natural fit. By using the English language learner’s personal strengths, we can quickly and easily reach them with critical information, in collaboration with structure and grammar while instilling communicative skills with creativity this in turn helps for inculcating. Nowadays, the newest model is the flipped classroom, where the student is required to watch an instructional video or lecture at home and then complete associated tasks or projects in the classroom. While students work through assignments in class, teachers can better identify and target each student’s needs and facilitate differentiated instruction. Another objective of this individualized approach is to empower students to direct their own learning by coming to class prepared to ask questions and problem solve with their peers after viewing the subject matter on their own. Authentic learning learning from real world problems and questions Students become balanced individuals who can function as members of their culture. Classroom activities based on authentic learning foster deep understanding about the subject matter it also guides the students for how does one lead a good life? Involve the community, parents, family, and guest speakers. New standards relate to the concept of performance-based assessment. Connect it to your personal life, make choices with regard to it, and reflect on it. Many schools have adopted standards in which students are asked to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways, including essays, oral presentations and/or a portfolio of student work. Research a thesis, and catalogue and organize his or her information using the internet connected computer in the library media center. This brings perhaps the most important advantage for ELLs.
